Vanessa joined PaCoN after learning about it in her undergraduate studies at The University of Hawaii at Manoa. She wanted to continue her work in the field of agriculture. She joined the plant pathology department seeking her MS degree and to further her knowledge in the field of Biosecurity.

Her goals are to complete her MS degree, and then pursue a PhD in Plant Pathology before seeking work in the field of Biosecurity.
